Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. This value is the total of all its upgraded perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios.  item upgrading  can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is restricted to the lower levels). Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.

Item Stats

The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon, and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat mods of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's skill.

Upgrades to an item may increase the stats of an item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Another method of altering the stats of an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and are available in all shapes and sizes. Affixes can do things like give the item additional damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving an exclusive name to the item.

Presently, all affixes are able to be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circling arrows. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other rerolling options.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which of the available stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within that range, unless it is a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Item Luck

Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted by using the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the existing Luck of the item up to 140.

Moreover, certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items are available in the shop or created using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are a costly process and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The success of an  item upgrade  is also affected by the Luck of that item. Every item has a base success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5percent.

The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above items in the inventory. This could obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
